Trump May Be Close to Pardoning Obama’s Biggest Enemy

We all witnessed the left have an utter meltdown a couple weeks ago when President Donald Trump issued a pardon for former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a long-time enemy of the Obama administration due to his tough enforcement of federal immigration laws.

Now, a second meltdown may be in the cards. Another Trump pardon has been suggested for a different enemy of the Obama administration. Namely, Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who led an armed standoff against federal officials in 2014 following a dispute over federal land ownership, cattle grazing fees and the overreach of federal agencies, according to The Daily Caller.

The suggestion that Trump pardon Bundy, on trial in October for charges of conspiring to “incite” a rebellion against the federal government, came from long-time friend and confidant Roger Stone.

Bundy was arrested and hit with the charges in February 2016 after traveling to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, where his sons Ammon and Ryan had lodged themselves in protest of the Obama administration’s Bureau of Land Management.

Several other individuals were arrested in connection with the 2014 armed standoff in Bunkerville, but according to the High Country News, federal prosecutors have done a dismal job thus far in making their cases, winning convictions on only two charges.

It has been surmised that the weak track record of the feds in court on this issue is largely due to their own actions, which have not dispelled the significant distrust Americans have in the federal government and the seemingly arbitrary power they wield.

Bundy garnered the wrath of Obama’s federal agencies after he refused to continue paying federal grazing fees that permitted his cattle to graze on public land. He claimed he had a right to be on the land — land that was also claimed as being owned by the federal government.

When the feds moved in to round up Bundy’s cattle and forcibly remove them, Bundy led a band of armed supporters in a stand-off that only ended when the feds eventually backed down.

Given the level of outrage that came along with Trump’s pardon of Arpaio — or anything else Trump does, for that matter — it would be interesting to see how the left would react to Trump pardoning yet another strong individual who refused to be cowed by Obama’s heavy-handed administration.

As to whether Trump actually intends to pardon Cliven Bundy or not remains to be seen.
